When Boris, a notorious criminal, falls ill, a visit to the doctor confirms that he has cancer, and he is given less than two years to live. Devastated, Boris decides to get away for a while to try to come to terms with his illness. He gets the first train out of town, indifferent to its destination, and it is there, while talking to a young teacher, that Boris recalls his own ambition as a young man to teach. With so little time left, Boris decides to pursue his dream and after supplying a false reference, he gets the job as literature teacher at the local village school.
He has not been working there long, before he becomes aware of a local gang who are dealing in drugs as well as terrorising the neighbourhood including the schoolchildren. Boris sees how terrified the residents are and remembers that he too, in his youth, had instilled fear into many innocent people. Ashamed of his past, Boris finally redeems himself by putting his criminal skills to good use and helping the town fight back.
