Yulka both hates and admires the old woman who hires her as a housemaid. Marta acts like a real queen, reigning over Yulka and treating her worse than a servant. However, for the purposes of her plan, Yulka is ready to bear any hardship…

Marta takes pleasure in watching Yulka and, from time to time, skillfully pulling on her heartstrings; the girl is not ready to take over her role yet…

Meanwhile, private detectives Makar Ilyushin and Sergey Babkin find their new case fairly straightforward. Businessman Tagoyev has asked them to track down his daughter after she has run away, but when they find the girl, her intentions shock and terrify even these most experienced of detectives.

Many people see themselves as puppet masters - in control and always pulling the strings, but can anyone ever really be sure whether they are the puppeteer or if they are being manipulated by someone else, or forces beyond their control?
